Plantar warts: some tips to treat them!

With the arrival of sunny days, it is normal to want to go and relax by the pool. Although this activity seems pleasant for some, others are held back by the fear of getting plantar warts. Rest assured, Clinique Podiatrique Stéphanie Bonneau Inc. helps you learn more about the causes, prevention, and especially about the treatment of plantar warts.

How can we recognize the plantar wart?

Located on or under the foot, the plantar wart is recognizable by its delimited shape and its slightly rough texture. Indeed, the lesion caused by the plantar wart interrupts the natural lines of the skin.
The plantar wart is a lesion which, although benign, can sometimes cause pain or discomfort if pressure is exerted on the foot.
There are usually small black dots and its vacuoles give it a “cauliflower” appearance.

Do not confuse the plantar wart with the plantar corn which is due to repeated friction or pressure.

What are the causes of plantar warts?

The plantar wart is caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV).
As you will have understood, it is viral, therefore very contagious: it can be transmitted from one foot to another but also from one person to another.
To avoid contagion, it is recommended to wear a bandage and/or sandals in any place involving wet floors, which are therefore conducive to contagion: gym locker rooms, public showers, swimming pool edges, spas, bathrooms at home…

To avoid contaminating those around you, it is important to treat plantar warts quickly.

Finally, what are the effective treatments for plantar warts?

Sometimes, in rare cases, the plantar wart disappears spontaneously. More often it multiplies, grows and does not respond favorably to the treatments offered in pharmacies. In these cases, it is best to consult a podiatrist for advice and effective treatment that meets your needs.

The Clinique Podiatrique Stéphanie Bonneau Inc. in Longueuil offers several treatments for the care of plantar warts. The most effective treatments are often those carried out in the clinic, such as the application of the medicinal agent “Canthacur PS” or the intra-lesional injection of bleomycin – other treatments may be offered depending on the different cases. Indeed, you should know that the choice of treatment will be made according to the size of the wart, its age, as well as its severity.
